Slide show: Gunasekara Children's the trip to Kandy
Gunasekara is an orphanage for 20 girls between 5 and 18 years of age. They have either lost their parents or have been subject to some sort of aggression.
The orphanage was set up by Mrs Walter Gunasekara. After that her own three children had died young, she used her money by opening up her own home to orphan girls. Years passed and finally she could no longer cover all the costs herself. Together with sponsors she set up a foundation “Gunasekara Children´s Home Welfare Society”. The purpose was to participate in running the home, maintaining the spirit of Mrs Gunasekara.
The girls are placed there by the Department of Probation and Childcare. The department contributes with a fixed amount per child. However, it is not enough, and the gap is covered by donations.
SFCSL supports Gunasekara with money for extra classes, school materials, computers and IT education. Furthermore, the girls receive money for social activities, like excursions.
Earlier all the girls slept in one single room together with the manager. But thanks to private donations a new house has been built. SFCSL has helped with the purchase of some equipment like chairs.
For a period of two years SFCSL also supports two girls, who continue education on public upper school level.

Our Trip to Randenigala 9th to 11th October, 2011
(Report written by the girls at Gunasekara Children´s home)
We had planned to go on a trip to Randenigala on 9th October, 2011. This was going to be a three day trip and we were so very very happy.
We all got up at 3 a.m. and with the help of our Home mothers prepared our sandwiches for breakfast and the lunch packets. We all love cheese, and we looked forward to get cheese with the bread, butter and Jam sandwiches for breakfast. Read more (3 pages) >>>
