Arudphany Girls' Home in Batticaloa

Arudpany's girls in their bright, spacious home

Batticaloa is situated on the East Coast. More than twenty girls from three to four years up to twenty years of age live In Arudpany Girls' Home. The girls all come from difficult home situations. Many of the girls have only one or no parent alive.
The reverend S. Puvanendran (also supervisor) and his wife do a fantastic job  to manage the Arudpany Girls' Home.

The house was almost entirely destroyed in the tsunami and 5,000 people died in the city.
The girls survived because they were invited to the home of the reverend for Christmas. Since then the girls have lived in what was left of the house about 30-35 square meters.

A toilsome work has been going on to build a new house and home for the benefit of the girls. The new house is large and spacious with a beautiful garden and plenty of space for play and study.

Main sponsor of the Arudpany Girls' Home are the family Börjesson and Senior builders association in Gothenburg in Sweden.
They have generously conduced the building of the house and the operation of the orphanage.
So do also many members of the aid association of Swedish Friends of Children in Sri Lanka.

Dear Mr and Mrs. Stellan Borjesson

I am very happy to contact you on this first day of November 2011. The children of Arudpany Girls Home and my family sends you the Greetings.

We always remember you and include you in our daily Prayers.  We like to remind you of the old days when you came to our Home with Mary Helter. Then our place was in a very dilapidated condition and you gave us the building for the Girls to live in. Also at that time you and your wife planted a Coconut plant and in your thought we also planted some around it. The Plant you planted has started to fruit and all the Girls like to water it in your memory. Only the one planted by you has given fruit.

I am sending the pictures of the Coconut plant you gave and the current picture of the tree.  I and the Girls always think of Marco and are very happy to remember him.

We humbly believe that you would make a visit to our place in the coming year. We pray for you for a good and healthy life.

I believe that Meryline send you details about our Home time to time. Next month we are celebrating Christmas and the Girls are preparing for the Carol and the service.

REV. S. PUVANENDRAN
